Day 6

here are some photos of the apartment that im staying in, courtesy of my lovely friend, Prateek, who is out of the country for awhile. 

as you can see, there is a toilet. 

and a living room. 

there is also, luckily, a kitchen and a bedroom. i am so blessed....

new fun stuff:

1. i saw a woman buy bread from her 3rd floor apt this morning by lowering down an extension cord to the lady selling bread on the street and hauling the bread bag back up & over a jumble of 18 phone lines. when she threw the money down in a ball, it landed in the bread lady's hat. 

2. ladies from the staff at work cook lunch @ noon, everyone eats, then we all take a nap together on floor mats until 1:30, when we have to go back to work. 

3. last night, there was some american reality show on TV with english subtitles (seems like a waste of money to translate english to english, but whatever) that were hysterical. at one point, the subtitles translated "last ditch effort" as "last douche effort."

4. overall, i have mostly been working this week, so i havent done anything esp fun. my office is the entire 5th floor of a 5-floor walk up in Tahkmau (Kandal Province), which is a bit toasty with no AC and intermittent power to move the fan blades around.  i love the ladies i work with, though. now to learn to speak Khmer so i can talk to them.....

5. i cooked dinner! 

although this is surprising in and of itself, as some of you may know, i also had to figure out how to turn on the gas stove. now i just need to figure out where to buy salt and it will be edible.
